IAM Rejects Boeing Contract Offer

The Intl Association of Machinists (IAM) voted to turn down a contract offer from Boeing Wednesday night and begin a strike. But action on the strike has been postponed by 48 hours, as the Federal Mediation & Conciliation Service seeks to resolve the dispute. Around 27,000 machinists and aircraft workers in Washington, Oregon and Kansas are involved in the contract negotiations. Doug Kight, Boeing VP of human resources, called the vote “disappointing,” adding that the company will participate in the mediation process “in an effort to seek a resolution” acceptable to Boeing’s employees, customers and management.
