U.S. Airlines Back Airspace Revamp

A number of U.S. air carriers have responded favorably to the Federal Aviation Administration’s airspace redesign for the heavily traveled U.S. East Coast. Continental Airlines said it was glad to see the ten-year airspace redesign project for the New York/New Jersey/Philadelphia region come to a close. The airline said that with this phase of the project completed, it is now very important for airspace redesign to be implemented in order to begin to reduce delays in the New York/New Jersey/Philadelphia region. Continental operates a major hub at Newark Liberty International Airport and serves numerous other airports in the region. US Airways said “with a major hub in Philadelphia, hourly Shuttle operations on the East Coast and hundreds of flights throughout the Northeast, we are strongly supportive of the FAA's plan. The implementation of this plan is the single best solution to the congestion and delays that have inconvenienced travelers for too long." JetBlue Airways Chief Executive Officer Dave Barger "applauded the FAA and The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for identifying the right first-step solutions to the industry's growing congestion problem. As the largest airline at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, JetBlue is prepared to fully support the FAA's plan, including partnering with government and industry experts to determine the tactical and strategic changes needed.''
