Mx Crews Aide Hurricane Missions

Support and maintenance personnel accompanied members of the Hurricane Hunters from the U.S. Air Force Reserve’s 403rd Wing during the lead up to Hurricane Gustav’s landfall in Louisiana earlier this week. The unit supplies storm data to the National Hurricane Center using a fleet of WC-130J and C-130J aircraft. All 10 of the Wing’s WC-130Js are equipped with a stepped-frequency microwave radiometer, which measures surface winds directly below the aircraft.
