Rotorcraft Report: HUMS Vendor Gains Greater Acceptance

PRODUCTS | AVIONICS

Intelligent Automation Corp. is making headway in persuading helicopter operators of the value of its aircraft monitoring and diagnostics systems.

Much of Poway, Calif.-based IAC’s success has come with military operators. Its health and usage monitoring systems (HUMS) are installed on a number of U.S. Army rotorcraft platforms. Just before Heli-Expo in late February, it reported its selection by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. to design, develop, and manufacture an advanced vibration-monitoring system and HUMS for the Dhruv helicopter based on its combat-proven IAC-1209, modern signal processing unit.

"Our advanced HUMS technology will provide HAL Dhruv customers with a demonstrated ability to significantly reduce aircraft operating costs, while improving availability and safety," said IAC CEO Jeff Goodrich,

IAC also was selected last year by Era Helicopters to provide its advanced IAC 1134 SuperHUMS system and flight operations quality assurance for Era’s AgustaWestland AW119s and Eurocopter AS350s. Era plans to equip its entire helicopter fleet with HUMS and FOQA.
