Rotorcraft Report: ALEA’s Initiatives To Renew Fleets

ALEA 2008

ALEA has embarked on a two-part initiative to promote airborne law enforcement to Congress.

The first part is to encourage lawmakers to "support the funding efforts needed to keep aviation units active," according to the group. The second is a proposal to provide federal, state and local law enforcement agencies with opportunities to apply for federal monies that can be used to replace aging and surplus aircraft with modern aircraft and upgraded technology.

"We’re not looking to take money from other police funding," said Stephen Ingley, executive director of ALEA. Instead, the association wants to identify future sources of funding and encourage Congress, through education, to help all airborne law enforcement operators gain and maintain access to sources of monies for aircraft and technical equipment acquisition.
